Technology in the Pallet Industry

At Millwood, we utilize a variety of advanced technology to modernize our operations and improve efficiency in the pallet industry. Our company uses various technologies such as stretch wrappers, shrink wrappers and conveying systems, pallet handling systems, sustainability initiatives and ergonomic equipment.

Why Stretch Wrappers?

Stretch wrap systems are useful for protecting your pallet loads and improves sustainability, efficiency and organization. The process helps to stabilize and protect the goods during transportation and storage and prevents the risk of loss.

This also makes operations more profitable in the end. There are various stretch wrapping machines offered to fulfill the specific needs of businesses.

Somewhat similar to stretch wrappers, shrink wrap systems use a heat shrink bag or sheet to provide a protective layer of plastic around a product to prevent damage during shipment or outdoor storage.

Shrink wrapping unitizes a load-forming and tight seal around the product providing superior load to pallet integrity that is protective and waterproof. Some additional benefits to this technology would be its UV protection, five-sided coverage and ability to form around odd shapes easily.

Conveying & Pallet Handling Done Right

At Millwood, we understand conveying. Our network of suppliers and in-depth industry knowledge allow us to come alongside businesses to determine what type of conveying is right for their applications.

That includes new installations, system upgrades, service and maintenance, standard conveyor components, custom designs and engineered layouts for specific loads. Shrink Wrapping Machine

Additionally, our team custom-designs, installs, upgrades, refurbishes and services automated and semi-automated palletizers and packaging and material handling solutions.

Palletization and pallet handling systems are important and by having the in-house engineering capabilities, suppliers and 20 years' worth of in-depth knowledge about the industry, we are able to create unique solutions.

The Importance of Ergonomics

Ergonomic load handling equipment is another type of technology used at and provided by Millwood that is designed to prevent strain and injuries with the ultimate goal of keeping employees safe.

Studies have shown that a main issue in warehouses is the inability to recruit workers because of the manual level of handling operations. A main contributor to this is the amount of heavy lifting activities.

Thankfully, we have unit load systems that are designed to do the opposite. These machines do most of the hard work.

Your Sustainable Partner

Millwood remains mindful of sustainability, efficiency and safety in warehouses and logistics operations. An example of this is the use of eco-friendly materials.

Companies are using recycled plastics, compressed wood fibers and bamboo for pallet production to help reduce environmental impact.

Another integration of pallet technology in 2024 is Smart Pallets which are defined to be equipped with GPS tracking, radio-frequency identification tags, data on the exact location of a load and movement of goods.

Introducing AI

Continuing with the idea of online technology, artificial intelligence (AI) is at our fingertips and could be both a challenge and solution for pallet industries in 2024.

This newer technology has the potential to improve inventory management, reduce labor shortages and enhance customer satisfaction, if it is used correctly. AI’s purpose is not to replace human workers, but to assist in businesses to improve accuracy for projects.

An example of this would be using a computer with AI ability to scan pallets that could detect any changes in shape or size that a person might not be able to see with just an eye. This would show all flaws and damages on pallets, which would save on returns from customers or claims for damaged goods.

While AI still has some improvements and tests to complete, there are many positives that can be incorporated in the pallet industry’s technology in 2024. With the help of this resource, pallet industries would be able to reach their full potential in technology.

Millwood is successful in leveraging advanced technologies in the workplace, and companies that stay ahead of upcoming trends such as smart pallets, and AI will be in a great position to meet the needs of the supply chain and increase profit.
