Florence Facility Holds Cookout for the Homeless

Homelessness is a major issue across the country, and Florence, SC is no exception. The House of Hope has been serving and sheltering those facing homelessness in the Florence area since 1990. Jean and Bill Fryar opened the community shelter after seeing the troubling number of homeless people being turned away from other shelters. They served more than 50,000 meals in 2019 alone.

Fun Fact Friday: Why Do We Say "Knock on Wood?"

Most of us are familiar with the superstition of knocking on wood for good luck. After making a statement about our good fortune or an optimistic prediction, we tap our knuckles on the nearest wooden surface to prevent our luck from turning. In situations where wood is not physically available to ward off misfortune, a verbal expression of “knock on wood” will suffice.
