Prayer is an important component in the daily lives of many people in our nation. For many, prayer provides a spiritual connection between them and God, as well as peace and comfort in times of need and crisis.
Millwood is proudly a faith-based company. Our mission is that all who come in contact with us would clearly see the love of Christ in all that we do, which makes prayer an important part of how we do business.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance that takes place on the first Thursday of May each year. This day is designated by the United States government as a time for people of all faiths to come together and pray for the nation and its leaders.
The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer is, "Pray fervently in righteousness and avail much,” based on James 5:16, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
In this verse, James is calling us to forgive one another so that we may be healed from the hurt that we cause to one another. He also calls us to pray for one another. In the last part of the verse, he exclaims the power and effectiveness of a praying, righteous person.
Millwood’s mission to lead through Christ is strengthened by our chaplains and Millwood Cares program. Each Millwood location has a dedicated chaplain to assist team members in spiritual guidance. Regional Chaplain Coordinator Pastor Jose Perez shared a prayer in honor of the holiday.
“Sometimes our prayers are or should be to put our faith and to yield our trust to a power much higher, more loving than our own. Praise God,” Pastor Jose said.
Father, we thank you for today, where we can freely and openly pray to you without fear or consequence. We are grateful to live in a nation which was founded under your laws and commandments and to be able to experience the freedom to declare today a National Day of Prayer. Lord, we ask for your continued blessings on our nation. Father, we ask for your Grace and Mercy in our lives, and we ask that you touch those that do not know you, and to give us the courage to reach them, that they may get to know you through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
