The Halcones (Falcons) Fútbol Club, a soccer team sponsored by a New Jersey Millwood location won their championship game with a score of 1-0 on September 24. The team includes several current Millwood team members and is coached by a former team member.

The team competed in the veterans division of the Middlesex Soccer League for players 35 and older. They competed against a previously undefeated team in the championship game, finishing their season with a record of 8-2.

The location’s plant manager attended the game to root the team on.

“The head coach told me that Millwood must be good luck, because the last time we sponsored an outdoor team, they won the championship as well,” the plant manager said.

After the lineups were announced, the team paid tribute to a former teammate who had passed away. The team had a framed photo and a jersey for him present at the game as well.

The team had to contend not only with their opponents on the field, but also heavy winds and rain brought on by Hurricane Ophelia, which hit the New Jersey coast a few days earlier. The Halcones managed to get many shots on the opposing team’s goal, but only one made it past their goalie in the second half of the game.

The Halcones’ goalie, a Millwood team member, held the team’s lead by making several excellent saves.

After their victory, the champions and their coaches received medals and a trophy. The players were thankful for Millwood’s support and sponsorship.

“The guys were all very gracious and kept thanking me,” the plant manager said. “I told them they were welcome, and that they all played a really great game.”

Congratulations to the Halcones FC on their championship victory!
