Millwood Customer Serves as Example in Corporate Responsibility

Millwood often talks about our pillars and how they serve as a foundation for our business, but we are hardly the only company that feels a sense of responsibility in helping our communities. Corporate responsibility has only grown in popularity, due in part to the influx of millennials in the workforce who list it as one of the most important factors when working for a company.

Quad/Graphics, one of Millwood's customers, is just another example of a company that works not only to succeed in business, but to succeed in stewardship. Every June they organize a golf fundraiser that benefits different charities. This year, they wanted to focus on a military-based project, but one with local ties. Luckily, Homes For Our Troops had just the project for them.

Homes For Our Troops is a privately founded nonprofit organization that assists veterans injured in combat by renovating their homes to adapt to any handicaps a soldier may come home with. Cpl Kevin Hanrahan was one such veteran, and after an IED required his leg to be amputated, his tri-level home was unsuitable for his transition, even with a new prosthetic.

The money raised helped both with the extensive medical bills and the additions to the house. The goal is to continue these improvements to make the house more accommodating, including the installation of a walk in shower and a wider floor plan to simplify maneuverability in his wheelchair.

"I had just been medically retired for the Marine Corps, and didn't know anyone in the area besides my family. Since we've lived here we've received an outpouring of support from those around us and it means the world to my family and I," says Hanrahan.

Kevin Hanrahan and his story, or are interested in helping at upcoming events to continue the renovations to his house, check out the project updates here. Don't have the time or live too far from the Hanrahan family to attend an event? You can also thank him for his service by visiting he and his wife Whitney's registry and consider donating today!
