Leetsdale Celebrates Three Years Accident-Free

Millwood’s Leetsdale, Pennsylvania team reached their third accident-free anniversary on August 23 and celebrated as a team on October 2.

Plant Manager David Zeranick attributed much of the success to supervisors and leads, Bill Harper, Luis Alvarado, Clarence Belliveau and Orlando Quinteros, who are proactive about promoting safety culture with the team.

“All four push the safety culture, lead by example and make my job easier as the plant manager,” David said.

David’s advice for other Millwood teams hoping to reach a similar milestone is to lead by example and have an open-door policy with your team that encourages a “see something, say something” mindset.

“One day I started to walk out to the plant and one of my team members pointed at my face. I didn't even realize I forgot my safety glasses in my office because I was rushing,” David said. “I used that example in our weekly meeting and applauded Miguel for pointing it out.”

Leetsdale’s number one priority is that every team member returns home the way they came to work.

“Outside of work I have been a firefighter/medic for 23 years. I've been to a lot of industrial accidents. Spend the extra few minutes to do things correctly and safely. No one getting injured or worse is worth it,” David said. “Constant eyes from everyone and communicating goes a long way. Even if it's as small as letting maintenance know about a loose or missing bolt.”

David expressed pride and gratitude for his team and their commitment to safety. He was also thankful for the support and influence of District Manager Matt Pacurar, Regional Manager George Orrt, Director of Mission Fulfillment Frank Hyatt, SCBU Safety Manager Mondell Elliott and Regional Chaplain Coordinator Luis Diaz.

We give God the glory for the success of the Leetsdale team. Millwood’s mission is that all who come in contact with our company would clearly see the love of Christ in all that we do. Thank you to the Leetsdale team for living out that mission by prioritizing the health and safety of themselves and their fellow team members.
